The swallows are starting to gather as George feels the earth gently spinning.

This might be windy in which case if it`s too windy, no doubt Steve won’t publish it.

I`m standing in the middle of a field, nice Sunday morning after a pretty miserable week, with rain. In the middle of a field of grass and clover which has been, I think it`s been cut three times already this year for sileage and I think they may get a fourth one this year.

What has really struck me is the swallows and martins that are flying, zig zaging across the field, and actually now I`m watching them they are gathering on the power lines. They are only low power lines, you know, local things. They are beginning to gather and that is a sure sign that it`s cooling off and they are beginning, just beginning to think about crowding together to return. I think we have got another two weeks of them yet.

Yeah it`s great, there`s about (counting) fifteen or twenty of them at the moment, together.

I reckon in about another weeks time they`ll move into a bigger flock in villages, especially up the road in the local village. There will be fifty or sixty or maybe a hundred then. Then one morning they won’t be there. They will just fly off.

Of course the Swifts have gone already. They go early to middle August.

So, lovely day.

Make the most of it. I can see we have got a really good cloudscape here, cos I`m, I`m not high exactly but I`m on higher ground so I can see oh probably fifteen miles each way, maybe twenty. Certainly further if you are looking upwards. There`s long streaks of dark cloud with white quite well defined edges scudding across in a sort of North South pattern.

It`s the North wind of course which is changing to South tomorrow, and things will warm up again.

Yeah, it does me good this, getting out. Just quiet peaceful with the birds. Yeah it sounds a bit hippy but it`s true.
