Tracey has a terrible experience with talk talk

Hi it’s Tracey, um I just I wanted to talk about something. I was quite stressed out today. I find talking on the phone very stressful and I find talking on the phone to somebody with an accent that’s quite thick very stressful as well. Accents never used to bother me, but now with my dementia I find it really, really complex to know what’s going on. I’ve been having problems with my internet, so last night I realised that I didn’t have any internet, so I rang up this morning and I got on to talktalk. The girls who answer the phone are all Irish, bless them, and we figured out that there was a fault on the line and that was no problem. Well unfortunately the fault was fixed and my internet was back got on for an hour and then it was off again. So I had to go through to talktalk again and speak to someone else. I could not understand what she was on about and I was getting really frustrated and I got stressed within myself and the more I get stressed the more my speech gets slurred , and she didn’t know what I was saying. I’m laughing now but at the time I was getting really quite stressed, and it’s really quite frustrating when you’re trying to say to somebody and they don’t understand. Then she tried to speak slow but it made it worse. “She was…. Going….. like…… this….” And it was going so slow. And then she said to me, “why are you living on your own, I think you need to have someone with you in case this happens again” and then that made me more cross, just because I was thinking just because i have troubles on the phone it doesn’t mean I cant live on my own.

I did explain to her that I had dementia because I tried to explain to her that was why I couldn’t understand what she was saying and that makes it worse. Then she asked for an engineer to come out because I’m better face to face. And it is better face to face for me than talking on the phone and I just felt… I felt – and now I don’t have internet for a whole week because the only time the engineer can come out is on Friday. So I think I have to pop into town more often so that I can use the internet. So I felt isolated, it’s funny isn’t it how we all just suddenly get used to technology and without it we are a bit isolated. When you live on your own social media is my outlet, I can chat to lots of people, get to know what’s going on in the world. And I’ve got nothing really to fall back on and I just need people to know that sometimes a bit of patience goes a long way, but not sarcastic patience or unwilling, or not understanding doesn’t help either. And I find it so hard sometimes to get people to understand why I am the way that I am. Anyway you all have a good evening alright, bye now
