Tracey discusses aphasia and dementia
Hi this is Tracey
I’ve got back today from a two day, a meeting in London, we went up yesterday and then came back today. It was a DEEP meeting with Rachel Niblock and Jules and a few others and we met up with Rosemary Townsend who is from Discover to do with aphasia speech problems. We also met up with somebody called Amy who is an Admiral Nurse from Imperial. It was very interesting, I don’t often, and I used to have a lot of speech problems when I first got diagnosed with dementia which is not too bad now. It was quite nice talking about how things were and I we all spoke about, there’s three of us who live with dementia who have speech problems or problems with our speech at times. I have problems with finding words, word finding problems and I see a speech therapist last year and she helped me, I still use her techniques when I have problems. I was going through a lot of problems with dribbling and coughing on fluid and on food, I had to be really carefully. I don’t often talk about things like that with phones we don’t realise we talk about it and get it open and we try and find out things that we probably get in the future of how we can work alongside of each other and work alongside Rosemary who works at Discover? It’s just nice to go down, I mean Rachel sorted it all out for you, we all xxx up yesterday, we met up for lunch and stayed over, it’s all very nice and it’s lovely meeting up with everybody. Learning from each other too, sometimes we all have similar aspects and problems with our speech and other times it’s all a bit different. It’s interesting to spend time with each other. I was a bit nervous spending time with people, probably (inaudible) but it’s nice to meet up and then just learn. It was a lovely day, Bye!
