STILL ALICE: “The decline is too rapid and stereotypical”

– Keith Oliver, Canterbury

Keith offers his thoughts on the recent Award Winning film – Still Alice, in which Julianne Moore’s character is diagnosed with Early-onset Alzheimer’s. Keith praises the film in parts, but emphasises that the second half of the film depicts a depressing, rapid decline into illness, which lacks balance. Keith suggests that the rapid decline of Moore’s character may have served as a platform to display her acting abilities, but, in the process, may perpetuate long standing stereotypes about living with dementia.
