“I tried to fill this form in, and understand it, and every time I appeared to get it wrong.”

-by Agnes Houston

“I knew I couldn’t fill the forms in, didn’t understand why I was having difficulties, but trying to get a new passport was a nightmare. Five times I tried to fill this form in, and understand it, and every time I appeared to get it wrong. Thank goodness the post office offered assistance, but I think the girl was getting frustrated – no more frustrated than I was – we couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Even signing my signature I couldn’t keep it within the box. And you know the sad thing, everybody wants forms filled in. The bus pass every year, everything has to be done year in year out. Why can’t they just accept, that with dementia, things aren’t going to get better and just leave us alone to try and live our lives the best we can? It’s getting harder and harder for me, and life is getting more and more difficult because they’re asking me to do more things. And that just makes me feel depressed.”
