People with dementia are no strangers to the isolation that lockdown has created says Tommy.

Tommy: Hi it’s Tommy reporting. We are into week three of social isolation. Week two of where the government have implemented the stay at home unless you’re a key worker situation.

It has taken a crisis of biblical proportions of the government to realise the importance of the NHS. And its most important asset, its staff. Years of running the NHS down are now coming home to bite us.

We now know that it’s not the sports stars earning millions of pounds a year that, who are the true heroes but the crisis of fear I’ve had for years about what happens if the carers get sick? Is becoming a nightmare, nightmare- reality. They will soon be at breaking point.

My peers are in a better position funnily enough to prepare for social isolation than the rest of society, because we have had years of social isolation. It’s no stranger to us.

Look when this Corona Virus has gone away and is just a distant memory social isolation will still be here, for my Peers and for myself. The Government needs to be made aware of the other crisis that is creeping up on us. That’s the growing number of people who will be diagnosed with dementia. Many of who will face a life of social isolation. Society has now had a taste of what it’s like to be told when you can go out, who you visit, who you can meet. Let’s hope they learn from it and that society becomes a better place to live in.
