Tommy’s feeling exhausted by his struggle with dementia today. But he’s determined not to give up.
Hi, it’s Tommy reporting.
Today’s a very bad day. Dementia’s got me today. It was a long night fighting with demons. I can’t get out of the quicksand, I just can’t get out of this quicksand.
My energy’s been sapped. My head’s completely empty. I hate days like this because I know that if I don’t keep on fighting Dementia, it will win and I won’t be coming back.
I know – I know I’ve been through many days like this before, but they’ve become even more and more exhausting. I will go and do my exercise on the treadmill, even though my body’s screaming at me and Dementia is telling me to just sit down and relax. But I know that if I do, that will be the start of the end.
On days like this, I always think that Hope is having a day off, but I’ve got to believe that it will come back, I’ve GOT to believe it will come back. This is where normally, meeting with my mate Paul would help, because he would have total empathy with me, because the Black Dog that is Dementia, comes to visit him also.
I want to put on a brave face now, because I don’t want my wife to know that the Black Dog is here today. But no, I’m going to fight it. I’ll be glad when this Coronavirus goes, because I need the help of my peers to help me get through these days. It’s only when this crisis has come about, you realise how important it is to have someone live with – with Dementia, going through what you’re going through and to be there, to be my strength when I haven’t got it and for me to be with somebody when he hasn’t got it.
No. I’m not going to let it win. I’m going to fight it today. I’m going to fight it today. I’m going to fight it today. I’m going to win today. I’m going to win today. It’s not getting me today.
End of report.
