Julie recounts some evocative memories of childhood.
Hello this is Julie from YODA.
Spending long days alone now unable to get out has led me to increasingly reminisce about younger, fitter, freer days.
One of my favorite places to visit as a girl was the moorlands near my home. When I was growing up we would have frequent family outings, Norland moor, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful view across the Calder Valley.
The colour and scents of the heather moorland were truly uplifting
Every summer we would go burberry picking there and Mum would make these into large pies which we would have with custard in the coming days.
At the end of the day myself and my sister would sit out on some large stones at the base of the moor while Mum and Dad went into the pub for a beer, bringing out a small bottle of pop and a bag of crisps each for us.
Now I am disabled I truly miss not having access to my beloved moors.
A magical place to spend time, but at least I have my memories, my precious memories.
