At this weeks dementia diarists zoom meeting we discussed the issue of trauma. There is strong evidence to suggest a connection between early trauma and dementia. In this diary Stephen reflects upon that conversation and wonders how his own experience of trauma may have played a role in his dementia.

Had a meeting on Diaries this morning, that was really good, enjoyed that, lot of nice stories out there.
Yeah it’s, I mean, it’s not only that. Everybody’s had their different tragedies and I guess that could have – my doctor said that my older brother’s sudden death possibly might have triggered my dementia, possibly, cos it was very very sudden. He died of a massive heart attack, yeah it was very sudden. The doctor reckons that my consultant said it may have been a slight trigger, that sort of trauma. Yeah, just any sort of trauma can activate it I think but, that’s what he said anyway. So you know, whether it’s true or not I don’t know, possibly, my brother’s sudden death might have activated mine, possibly?
