“GPs will have to inform the DVLA if they think one of the patients is not safe to drive”
My name is Allan Davis from Bedford. The message of the information is as follows. On the news today it says GPs will have to inform the DVLA if they think one of the patients is not safe to drive. The responses from us is that:
- Who makes the decision that you can’t drive? Is it the doctor (GP) or a specialist dementia service?
- This could cause problems in the relationship between the patient and GP which is problematic itself.
- “Where do the test centers fit into this new idea?”
- “We feel that there are no end of people who are driving who should not be and would continue anyway unless some form of law is put through the appropriate system.”
- “Some people decided to stop driving because they knew they were not safe on the road before the diagnosis, I myself decided to stop straight away when I was diagnosed.”
- “Not being able to drive causes isolation, this is seriously bad for people with dementia, should we insist that the gov puts more money into public transport e.g subsidies taxes. This is a major issue for everyone.”
