Dory asks if being over sensitive is a symptom of dementia
Hello this is Dory. I was just wondering if being over-sensitive is a symptom of dementia? I keep getting quite upset by people’s comments and I should try I think to be harder and not let it upset me so much. By people’s throw-away comments I suppose. I went to the gym this morning coz I try to keep as active and fit as I can, and I’d forgotten to take the key out of the locker. When I came back to the changing room I went to the wrong locker and opened it. It was empty, so I want to the reception desk to ask if somebody handed in my bag and my clothes as I’d forgotten to take the key out. Anyway one nice lady said she would come and check in the changing room for me, because nothing had been handed in. And then, as I went round the corner, the other two receptionists…one said to the other “Oo, what a stupid woman, fancy leaving their key in the locker!” So I turned round and went back and said “No, I’m not a stupid woman, I said, I just have dementia. So a person with dementia is quite likely, as well as anybody else, to forget.” Anyway I got back to the changing room and I’d gone in the wrong locker, it was the one next to it. But I did complain to the manager. But then I was thinking, why do I get so cross? [inaudible] . Anyway there you go. Bye!
