Diarists talk about what Dementia Diaries means to them

I’m Agnes and I share my Dementia Diary because I can share my happy, sad moments and I’m a part of something wonderful and I call them my pals.

I’m Shelagh, it can be anger, happiness, the need to connect with my tribe, the burning need sometimes to have my voice heard and loneliness.

I’m Howard
The opportunity to share our lived experiences to empower the people living with dementia that follow us.

Hello, I’m Mhairi and I am proud to be a Dementia Diarist
I want people to know that, people with dementia, when they get their diagnosis, that it’s not the end. It feels like the absolute end when it happens but there’s plenty of other people in the same situation.
If you are lucky enough to be near a DEEP group then those are the people, I would suggest, that you get on the internet and find out how to get involved because it actually makes a huge, huge difference.
It’s made a big difference to my life and Hugh’s life, my husband who bears up and walks alongside me and encourages me to get out and about and do things and be involved.
So I’m really really delighted to be part of Dementia Diaries and particularly like it when somebody, who I don’t really know, has found something out about it and has said that they have heard something – so I know it works.

Over and out – Happy Tandemer

Hi I’m Dory and Dementia Diaries to me are a cacophony of voices.

I’m Frances and I like doing the Dementia Diaries because it gives me a chance to talk about everyday things and people in my new life with dementia.

I’m George, Dementia Diaries are a chance to rant, a chance to shout, a time to be blunt and tell what it’s all about.

[Glenda’s bit in welsh]
My name’s Glenda and I get really angry when I see injustice.

I’m Tommy, the only way you can truly learn to know what it’s like to live with dementia is to listen and learn from my peers who are here everyday living with it. It shows me that I am not alone.

Inspiration to write makes me high as a kite, no need to feel blue because I’m always with you

Hi I’m Chris and I like doing the Dementia Diaries because I can use my voice to help those who don’t have a voice and if I can help one person to not have to experience some of the difficulties and obstacles I experienced that’s worthwhile, I like helping people, and together on Dementia Diaries and in DEEP we can make a difference.

Hiya peeps, It’s Wayne,
I just love speaking to the other diarists via the diary because it’s such a great relief to speak to people that I believe really understand what I’m trying to say, Thank you

Hello I’m Lorraine, what inspires me to make Dementia Diaries is to record the passion and emotions of the moment.

I’m Julie and I find that Dementia Diaries is the true voice of empowerment

Hi I’m Wendy, Everyone’s voice is important so I feel like I’m adding my voice to the growing number speaking out.

I’m Keith, when I did my first diary I didn’t know anybody here at all. What it did, it gave me a voice, knowing that people would be understanding when people that haven’t got dementia don’t want to listen.
