Peter comments on the dismal debate in Parliament about dementia

I’ve just completed my review of the abysmal, self-congratulatory commons debate on dementia care and I’m very disappointed at the way people with dementia have yet again been ignored. The MPs obviously don’t care about ‘nothing about us without us’.

It was more about carers and martyred carers than care of people with dementia, chewing the obvious malign influence of the wretched liars and crutched friars, re-stating ridiculous lies over and over again demonstrating their complete ignorance of the problem then not much chance of addressing it.

Just one example, over and over again we were told ‘one in two will either get it or care for someone with it’ even when the next sentence says that ‘one million people will get it’ obviously the simple arithmetic that this means each of us will have thirty personal carers is beyond them.

There were no words from people with dementia about our feelings, wants or needs and I am sure I wasn’t the only person with dementia who wrote to their MP about what attention we needed.

There was no recognition of the needs, wants of the 300,000 of us buggering on as best we can.

They seem to think dementia starts once we become dependent on care.

There was no discussion about how best to extend our independence or dementia villages to delay incarceration in care homes.

Nothing about the inhumanity of cutting us off from access to whatever assisted dying facilities they pass.

The only hopeful thing in the whole three hours was the evidence of the benign influence of Dementia UK and Admiral Nursing and occasional mention of DEEP like groups without acknowledging the existence of DEEP.
