Glenda reports on a busy Dementia Awareness week.

After a really busy week with Dementia Week, I’m having a quiet one this week.
We’ve been all over the place. I went to Bangor University at which I’ve been on the steering group and Dementia Friends, we have achieved for Bangor University, and we are going round now to try and get it to be it a dementia community university. It was an enjoyable evening and the young people were so very nice.

The best part, I liked about the week, was we went for a walk in the woods with Emma Quaeck from Porthmadog Dementia GO. We had a really really lovely time and we also did some craft, we made a wild bird feeder out of willow and we all enjoyed it, it was a lovely day, and then we went back to the leisure centre.

and also I feel that communication is really important. On my travels I have met many different people. Last time I met a lady who is deaf and she also has dementia and she has somebody with her who does sign language for her and it was really really interesting, but how would she communicate if she lost her ability to sign? It’s things like this that worry me. I have also met a blind lady with dementia, which says a lot, we still have a lot to learn about communication with people.

Thank you, speak to you soon, bye.
