Martin talks about how Life Changes Trust changed his life

Steve Milton: This is part two of Martin’s diary. In this part he talks about the non-medical support that he got following his diagnosis of PCA.

Martin Robinson: As for the non-medical side [inaudible] consultations up here I was never given advice about the Alzheimer’s Society or anything. But because luckily we’re both tech-savvy we looked it up and it turned out that Aberdeen is fotunate to have a resource centre so we went along and they have what’s called a Positive Dementia Group which used to be DEEP but it no longer is.

And through that, initially I think my first thought was to last year’s social work students at Robert Gordons and they kept saying “They can’t do that, they can’t do that”. And I said “Oh yes, they can.” I thought they should do that, oh they do. Things like that. They were really surprised at if you like real life but then I got involved with Life Changes and to be honest Life Changes has certainly changed my life because I felt enabled. I felt able to…I spoke at that conference and it gave me a feeling of being enabled, basically.
