In this lovely diary Joy likens her life to a steam train journey.
Joy:
Sometimes I liken my life to that of a steam train journey.
The train pulls out of the depot all fired up and ready to go. The stoker is kept busy keeping the engine going. As the steam builds up so does the speed. The engine negotiates dark tunnels, high bridges and beautiful landscapes. Some steep inclines put pressure on the driver and stoke man, letting the fire go out would be disastrous.
As the train approaches it’s destination the whistle blows and the steam from the funnel dies down. The locomotive is soon being prepared for the return journey. More coal is shoveled on board. The water is topped up and the passengers are ushered onboard.
Another journey begins. The familiar smell of the coal, closing our eyes to keep out the steam as the train goes through the tunnel. Appreciating the care of the driver and stoke man. As the station comes into view we are delighted to be back on familiar turf.
Cheers.
