“Life is so important; why should people be allowed to take their own lives?”
by Melvyn Brooks
“My, uh, my dementia is uh. It hasn’t altered any, but I just feel so crap in the mornings when I get up. It’s just getting the body going. I suppose everyone’s the same. It just doesn’t happen to people with dementia, I know. But uh, when you go to bed thinking about it, and wake up thinking about it. When I do get some sleep, it weighs heavy on you.
And um. I was listening to Robbie Savage in the night. Cause I had the radio on as well. I didn’t know he was a dementia, dementia champion. Apparently his father had dementia. He was arguing a point with this other lady, I can’t remember her name [Katie Hopkins].
And um, it was about sui- you know, taking your own life, and all that if you was terminally ill. This particular lady said she wouldn’t want her children to have to look after her. Well, I don’t think that’s everyone’s decision. It’s a decision that is already made for us. We um- Life is, life is so important. Life is, it’s dear to everyone. And why should people be allowed to take their own lives? That’s my opinion. And I don’t want to sound opinionated. You know we all got a choice. But I don’t think that should be one of them.”
