Melvyn’s generosity is a lovely tribute to his late wife. Beautiful.

Alright now I’m back again. I just want you to talk about my garden. My wife died in 2019, November 2019. And um, it’s about my garden. I wasn’t able to do any gardening while I was looking after my wife. She loved the garden. She loved gardens and roses. Her father was a rose grower in Chelsea and places like that. But I never managed to do the garden so I decided that um, I would make amends and I, unbeknown to me, I made an oasis in the garden. Different oasis. Different areas. Seven different areas. Why seven? Seven is my lucky number, surprisedly. And I’ve got seven different areas that are different. But the same if you know what I mean. I’ve got trees and plum trees and cherry trees. And I’ve got um…eucalyptus, silver birch, a Japanese flowering cherry, which is absolutely fantastic when it all comes out. I’ve got a silk tree which is absolutely fabulous – it’s from the Americas. I’ve got water in the garden for birds. My front garden I’ve got – it’s down to – it’s a wild bird – I’ve planted wild grass seed. What you do, you let it to grow and you cut it twice a year like farmers used to do. But this year I’ve done it a little bit different. I’ll just tell you quickly, I started it three years ago and last year was absolutely brilliant for the bees and the birds. But this year I’ve done it a little bit different. I’ve got some planters in, in the center of it – two planters. And I’m growing lettuce and radishes and potatoes, onions, and radishes, and not only for myself but for other people. For them to have because they’re so expensive. The cost of living is so expensive. So I’m just growing it for other people really and I’ve got a note, a sign up in the garden that says anyone can come in and get a lettuce if they want or a radish or when the potatoes are ready, they can have them if they really want. I want to share my garden with people. But I wasn’t able to do when my wife was alive and this is just a – I suppose sort of a memorial to my wife. In as much that I couldn’t do the garden when she was alive which is so sad. I know that …there you go. I’m going to finish now and gonna do another diary later on. It’s nice to be back. And talking about different things and about dementia because it’s very important to us. Thank you. Bye.
