James talks about confabulation, something many people will recognise.
Good morning, this is James. Firstly and most importantly, thank you for doing the job you’re doing. Must be helping millions.
I’m on a Zoom now for Dementia Diarists. We were talking about mixing words up and not forgetting the name of something, but being able to describe it. Say for example, the animal that lives in the desert and it’s got two humps, whether it’s a camel. So I’ve had to do that a lot with my wife: describe the thing and what it’s used for, but I can’t remember the name.
And another thing, sometimes I worry about saying an inappropriate word. Because if you can’t remember a word, your brain frantically tries to get one near it and that’s what you say. Say for example, one day I said “oh look, there’s a group of perishers”, and what I meant to say was: a group of pensioners, enjoying a day out. So, that’s always a worry, that what you mean to say is not what comes out your mouth.
So: have a nice time. Bye bye.
