James wonders if he is a zombie considering the fact that his life with dementia has been so much longer than he was led to believe it would be.

Good evening, this is James, thanking you for the brilliant work that you’re doing, helping others.

When I was diagnosed, over twenty years ago, with dementia, I was at an Alzheimer’s conference and I was shocked to see up on the board – or whatever it was in those days – an OHP projector, that I had up to six years to live and that was it. And I’ve heard these dates mentioned this year by other people. Now, unfortunately, I don’t know what happened, but I went over the six years, so I think there’s some of us walking about like zombies. Because we were doing very well. Maybe the problem was, last century, you got diagnosed with dementia, you got stuck in a, what was then asylums, or if you were rich you could put someone in a care home, or if you had a big house you could lock them away in a back room and not let anybody see them again.

So, I wonder what survival time people are given these days? I’ve no idea because I don’t meet people that have been diagnosed within the couple of last years.

So, again something to ponder over. Good night.
