James reflects on the need to stay healthy whilst Zooming.

Good evening. Thank you for doing the job you do.

I was speaking to Steve today and I’d forgotten about it until now. I remembered a couple of hours ago, put it on a bit of paper, and I kept losing it, so everywhere I went I had to carry the bit of paper.

We talked about ‘Zoom eyes’. Now you know that some people can get housemaid’s knee because of all the pressure on their knees and I think you get housemaid’s elbow. You can get RSI for typing. So there’s people that are in an office – they’re allowed to get up I think every hour and go for a slight movement; and again, they can always go to the toilet. But with Zoom you’re sort of stuck there, unless they have a break and that’s rare. So, they quite often go from one meeting to another. I did that twice today – came out of one and into another.

So I’m just wondering if there’s going to be a medical term for Zoom eyes. That your eyes get tired and you can’t be able to see properly. You make mistakes. Ah, now what else was there? Yes, I noticed as well, that even though I sit on a cushion, the base of my spine gets sore and I just hope that I’m not storing up trouble there. Suppose i should maybe have a call with an alarm that’s set for half an hour. Every half hour, I get up and go downstairs and then come back up.

So, I think people would appreciate a bit of medical help just to avoid problems that we haven’t recognised yet. Good night, sleep tight.
