Wendy Mitchell comments on Dementia Diaries Meet Up

Dementia Diaries get together and what it meant to me……….

The meeting of wonderful people always fills me with enthusiasm and gives me the strength to continue what I’m doing. Dementia is a lonely existence but hearing others, in the same boat, talk about their challenges and successes makes you feel part of one large extended family. We’re all over the country raising awareness in our individual unique way. The new funding means we can bring more people into this family and replace the isolation, allowing them too to say what they think, express their views, express their sadness, express their joy. But more importantly, for others living with dementia to see and hear that they’re not alone and for those without dementia to hear that life really doesn’t have to end with a diagnosis.
The highlights of the meeting for me? The girlie giggles as positive risk taking was put to the test; the hugs and the laughter; and simply knowing you’re not alone.
