It feels like nothing has changed in the last 10 years since I have been diagnosed

Hello it’s Melvyn here, I just thought I’d do another report.

I’m absolutely astounded, well not astounded; so, so cheesed off with it all because I’ve been diagnosed now for 19 years.  To be honest, to be really brutal and honest  – nothing has changed.

Every day, every day there is a funding crisis for the NHS, there’s a funding crisis for care homes.  There’s no money, there’s no love, no compassion and you know care homes are teetering on the edge of – it’s all into funding and failure within the health service.  I think it’s because of the funding, or lack of.

To be honest since I’ve been diagnosed and I’ve been involved in dementia – do you know what?  Nothing’s actually changed.  Nothing has actually changed. I think I need to reassess and to think deeply in what I do next because it seems that we’re just wasting our time.  I’m just wasting my time.  I’d like this to be on the open air because it think it needs to be listened to and we need to devote this because with all that we do, all the talking that I do, all the talking that everyone does about dementia – is there any improvement?

Perhaps I’m just being depressed or something, but I don’t think so – in fact I’ve just got to the point where all my passion, all my passion for dementia is being put under pressure because of it.  All I see is this struggle, struggle, struggle and everything is all about greed.  Oh and “I need X amount of money for this and X amount of money for that”.  Do you know that we have a job to fund and get any funding for anything for longer than 2 years for dementia, and that’s since I’ve got to discuss and talk about dementia.  All it is, is meant for 2 years and then “sorry no more funding; we need it for something else, we need it for the greed of wage drivers, for staff and for directors and for the head of the NHS hospitals and executives”.

I’m just really so fed up with the greed that exists, and the lack of any help.  As my wife said just 5 minutes ago – “what’s different?  What’s been different in the last 10 years since you’ve been diagnosed?” The only thing different is that we have an (inaudible) nurse come out once a month for half an hour, that’s all the difference is.  Nothing else, absolutely nothing else.

Really I’d like a discussion on this with all of the dementia diary users, I hope that this is put up and I hope that this is listened to and perhaps we can get a discussion about it.  Thank you, bye.
