Nancy McAdam shares her first Dementia Diaries post!
Hiya! Nancy McAdam calling. This is the first time I’ve tried doing this so I’m just kind of getting my diary in front of me here so that I can look at what I was doing, in august actually I think it was. I had a visit from an Occupational Therapist who was doing a project with the Scottish Dementia Working Group, her name was Beth she was lovely, she lovely she was Austral…no she was Canadian and at the moment her mum and dad are over in Edinburgh visiting her and they are about to do the 500 trip around the north of Scotland, sounds really exciting, and I have told Beth that if her parents and her manage to make it to Cromarty that they would be most welcome, if they make sure that they give me a ring first.
So what has my week been like with Beth? I had a lovely time actually, she is doing an intern job with a project run by the Queen Margaret University and Santander and Edinburgh University and the Scottish dementia working group, in partnership, and what they are trying to do is show a different aspect of people who are doing the project and just the different things they get up to. So Beth came up to my house believe it or not, well first of all we met in the play park near xxx where I do my tai chi, and she came to the play park to take some pictures to start the whole project off, so that was lovely. Then her and I talked about the pictures and the ones which we wanted to use and which ones we might not use. So she’s given me a little booklet of my story which is lovely, with photographs of things we were doing the day she came to take the pictures. The only thing they missed out on was at the end of the evening on a Tuesday, I do a mindfulness session which lasts about 2 hours, which is very much it’s in the tradition of Teet Nahan, which just means teacher and he lived in Vietnam for years, and I think that he has now, I think he has now gone back to Vietnam because he’s had several strokes; probably close to death , but perhaps not it would be good to know that he has not done yet. Anyway, blah blah blah, sorry too much blethering going on here. I need to think about this and what I want to say in future perhaps, so this is just giving you a little start Rachel , and I’m sorry it’s all about my visit with Beth. She’s got a picture of me sitting in my house, which is just cute, and a gorgeous one of me in the (inaudible) which is where we had the party, the family are all here and we are partying. This time I think we had a small party because it was Scott’s birthday, he turned 50 – the bad news was that he also got made redundant which just wasn’t good. I’m now just rabbiting on so I’d better stop this I think then find out what it sounds like by phoning Rachel. Cheers, I look forward to hearing you again later, and I’m sorry it was pretty brief , but that’s what I’m getting today – bye!
