Chris and George reporting from Dementia Action Alliance Technology event in London on May 16th 2018

-Hello, this is Chris from North Wales

– and George from Shropshire

– And we’re at a DAA event today about

– technology, and it’s uses for people living with dementia and carers.

– And its actually very interesting. I didn’t realise how much technology that I’m actually using anyway.

-Yeah, we’ve heard quite a bit about some devices that tell you, how shall I put this, they tell you whether you’ve done something or not done something at home. Like moving, or opening doors or whatever. We haven’t heard much yet about apps, which we were hoping for.

-Yes absolutely, and something that tells you when you’re not moving is very handy if you’ve not  moved for a day or so, i.e. you’re dead.

– i.e. you’re dead. It’s good to know when you’re dead [laughing]

-We also did a session about Dementia Diaries itself, and Rachel, I and Fran talked about the purpose of it, the amount of resource that’s in there for researchers, for politicians, for commissioners, so that there is no excuse whatsoever for anybody to say “it’s difficult to find someone with dementia to actually tell them what matters to them”.

-Absolutely, all they have to do if they can’t find them, they just go to the website and they can hear almost any subject, from lots of people of different ages, different stages of their dementia.

-And we’ve also made the point today that actually there are over 100 DEEP groups, which is probably about 1000 people around the country who are ready, able and willing to actually take part in any sort of research, or joint working, to develop new products, assistive products and in fact we have made the point, several of us, that nothing should be developed without us.

-Absolutely, absolutely and we also reminded them of the massive resource out there with current carers, ex-carers, as well as people living with dementia, because they are all affected by dementia as well. And if they can’t find one of us then we can find someone else.

– Bye, bye

-Bye
