A beautiful story of reunion and friendship
I wanted to do a recording about , ahm, a reunion that’s coming up. It’s a very, very special reunion. So, I had a friend, a girl friend who lived in the same village as us; and she was at the end of our street. And we were about, we were the same age, there was only a month between us. We were friends all through secondary school. She came on holidays with us. My mum used to take us away in her car. We used to go camping and caravans, all sorts of things and we used to have such fantastic fun and lots and lots of laughs. We grew up together. I lost contact with this very good friend when I got married in 1975. Yeah, we kind of drifted apart and I haven’t seen her since. Well, 40 years later, a very long time. About three years ago I thought I would try to find her , so I did some searching and I ended up on Facebook and I only had her single name. I didn’t know at the time that she was married, but she was. So she had a new surname. But fortunately for me, she had her previous name on her Facebook account and that’s how I came to find her. I looked through her photos and I recognised her face straight away and I thought, O, what shalll I do? She was obviously not an avid Facebook fan because she hadn’t put posts on there for many years. So I thought, go for it. So I left a message on her page and that was it. I done that and I waited, like, for a couple of weeks, up to about a month, and then I kind of forgot about it because I hadn’t heard back from her. Anyway, on Saturday evening, I got a, sorry on Friday, I got a message from her on my mobile phone saying, “O my God, I’ve only just seen this message that you left on my Facebook account” blah, blah, blah and we had a long, long chat on the phone. Any way, she phoned me again on the Saturday and she said “Wereally, really must get together.” And I said, “O definitely, yeah.” And I said “Soon, don’t leave it too long. Let’s organise something.” So we made a date. We had a very , very long chat again. It was for over an hour and everybody who knows me, knows that I don’t like using the phone.Ahm, we ended up, as I say, making this arrangement for the 20th of September. She’s coming down to our house, ahm, for the day. She’s going to meet my husband, she’s going to see my mum again who she remembers very well. Yeah, I’m so gobsmacked: after that phone call I was on a real high. I felt like to used to feel as a kid on Christmas Eve, waiting impatiently for Christmas morning to come to open all the presents. It was total shock, but a very beautiful surprise and I’m just extremely excited I just cannot wait to see her and catch up. O my God, we’ve got so much catching up to do. She’s now married and I think she said she’s got two sons, and she lives in Gillingham which isn’t too far away. So, now, I just thought i would share that with you. I’m so happy! I’m counting down the days now. It’s just wonderful. So that’s it. Bye!
