We can still experience the emotions we have always had and we find meaning in the present future and past

While a Person Living With Dementia (PLWD) awareness may slowly fade with the progress of the disease it is often overlooked that PLWD can live for a long time.

We can still experience the emotions we have always had and we find meaning in the present future and past

I fully accept that the dementia irrevocably will change me I will still be here as will be my peers

Sometimes our dementia is seen as us not been able to do the most basic things and our loved ones over compensate

They don’t let us do anything or make any decision, to often we are told during the day “why don’t you put your pyjamas on an relax”

don’t they know that when we put our pyjamas on that’s another day over for us

Decisions on what to eat, what to wear, where to go are taken away from us as soon as you’ve been given a diagnosis of dementia families assume that you can no longer do anything for yourself PLWD start to rebel about having control of their life being taken away and people trying to institutionalise us

Don’t expect a PLWD to eat at set times even when we are not hungry and to sleep when we are not tired

Disturbing behaviour is often a PLWD way of trying to communicate our fear and discomfort. Can you imagine the frustration of been told to sit down in a chair all the time when you just want to walk around and maybe get some fresh air
