Really useful information from Agnes about getting your hearing aid collaborated

Good morning everybody (coughs) sorry it’s Agnes from Scotland calling, I just wanted to tell you about an amazing experience I had yesterday, I went into Glasgow to do, with Miss XXX, a like health professional from IHub, H, IHub, can’t remember what it means, and she brought together for, er, a podcast from the vision field, the dementia field, already talking about dementia and vision and hearing challenges, they called it loss, I choose to call it challenges, because it’s not all about loss. I met an amazing audiologist called Denise XXX from NHS Lothian Scotland, who presented as well and Denise, and this answers to questions that people with dementia have been asking the audiologists and being told they could not, if you wear hearing aids, they’re called hearing something or other, can’t remember, and you put them in your ears to help you hear better and you won’t wear them because it’s pitting up the outside noise and that overpowers the ability to hear the spoken word, so unpalatable so it’s a type of hyperacusis, I hope. Well do you know? And are you listening Howard, that yes, if you go back to your audiologist, they can make adjustments to your hearing aids, calibrate it so that you can then hear, personal (inaudible) as much of their spoken word as well as reducing the background noise and interference. This, I believe, was the best outcome that I heard, in answer to my question and other people’s with Dementia. So I’m going to repeat it again, if you’re wearing hearing aids and no longer can wear them due to outside interference and noise, please go back to your audiologist and get them calibrated so that they are fit for purpose and if you’re hearing right, ask Howard, he’ll know what part of the article it is to get this done, so there you are, wonderful outcome. On the vision there wasn’t anything particularly new that I heard, that seems to be quite well accepted and done as far as I am concerned, it’s just mostly to get people with dementia to use it and their peer partners and optometrist and er, audiologist, no, optologist and you know your eye people to learn about dementia. The audiology one, another factor, we’ve got lots of work to do and I’m up for it, I’ve got the booklet on hyperacusis which is almost done for now we to need to find funding, so onward and upwards guys, it’s been really really great, please if you can find out the link because if you miss this, it’s going to be made, the links going to made available so that you can hear it and I urge people with dementia to get in touch so that they can get their voices heard. The next step is choosing the right hearing protection and what kind of equipment can protect my hearing, and when should I use hearing protection and I’m hoping to answer this in my hyperacusis erm, small booklet. Take care guys, I’m feeling upbeat and about to go off to do some meditation and yoga, bye for now.
