Melvyn’s thoughts about more benefit cuts, terrible standards in Care Homes. He asks what can we do!?

Hello it’s Melvyn here. I had a fantastic walk with my dogs today. Saw a buzzard, two buzzards and a green woodpecker, out on my walk, and it was fantastic. A fantastic view of the buzzards cavorting and very close to me and oh the colours of the buzzards were absolutely fantastic and they glide so beautifully and cavort and its absolutely beautiful to watch. And I saw a green woodpecker which was nice. Quite a few of them about of late but whenever I see one it’s really nice to see and it gives me so much pleasure.
I’d like to talk quickly about the benefits cuts that were sneaked in under the cover of Brexit chaos. Someone over 65 living with someone under 65 will be stopped from receiving the full pension credit from May 15th. It’s Amber Rudd, and this government is absolutely horrendous in doing such a thing. £7000 a year cut in benefits. On Monday, a fortnight ago while the 4th day of Brexit debate was in full swing. An insurance company, the former pensions minister Sir Steve Webb, Insurance group Royal London said it would force under 65s back into work or to do more hours he said, people deserve to know about this change not have it sneaked out on a day when ministers hoped that everyone’s attention was somewhere else. To some it means nothing but to a few it really does. £7000 a year, £140 a week less, how are they going to cope, I do not know. They’re carers and people living on their own. The CQC attended 30 care homes in Faversham, Whitstable, Canterbury and Herne Bay and found them all to be inadequate. A catalogue of safety concerns by the CQC, they’ve all been downgraded and they also said inspectors found staff was outdated training, lacklustre management and family members with so little confidence in the care provided that they stay throughout the night with their loved ones. The CQC should readily and rapidly be reviewing these care homes more and quicker because this is people with dementia who are in desperate care in these care homes that are supposed to be looking after their health. Can anyone do anything, I’m asking this question, what are we to do, what about people that need care, what are we going to do later in life? I’d like a reply if I could, I really would like a reply. How do we stop it, how do we stop this continuation of abuse. I’m only talking for people with dementia, because I can’t talk for anyone else, because I really, really am worried, desperately worried about the care in our hospitals and in our care homes.
