A lack of social skills is sometimes excusable, as Steve discovers.

Hello, it’s Steve Clifford.

Margaret wanted to go to Hobbycraft today. So, parking up in the disabled spot nearby, I got my motability scooter out the car, and off we went. We went into the shop, and as usual, there was a member of staff at the door welcoming everybody. So Margaret went in first and I followed, and there, true to form, was the trusty lady member of staff.

Margaret had gone on, and I thought I would strike up an amiable conversation with the lady from Hobbycraft. “Hello” I said, “Nice day”. She said nothing, totally ignoring me. Strange, I thought. “How are you?” I continued. Nothing. It was only then I realised that the lady who had ignored me was in fact a full sized cardboard cutout. I felt a bit silly, and looked around, hoping no-one had witnessed my blunder. Luckily, no-one had.

Thank you.
