Jacqui wonders how best to gently remind friends that she has dementia.
Hi, it’s Jacqui from Stockport.
Although I have had young onset Alzheimer’s for five years now, my friend said that she forgets that I have Alzheimer’s, and she expects more from me. And when I forget things or don’t do things, she gets a bit irritated with me, which I have noticed.
And I wonder how we can say to people: you know, I still have dementia. I might be able to do some things. Because my friend seems to be saying that she forgets I have it. I think they just get used to us with our coping mechanisms and our strategies. They forget we work hard at these strategies to try and live the best life we can.
So, I think we need to research how best the other people around us can remember that we do have dementia.
Take care.
Bye bye.
