Jacqui is reminded that it is often good to listen to the advice of somebody who knows you well

Hello, it’s Jacqui from Stockport near Manchester.

Well my friend who has been my housemate for over twenty years, she’s very active and fit and she is going to go do the last 114k of the Camino walk from Sterea to Compostela or something.

Anyway, so she said to me “what are you going to do when I’m away?”

“Oh”, I said “I’ll be fine.”

You see, I can’t plan anymore and I don’t see the future anymore, and she said “well I’m a bit concerned about how you will manage because I won’t be there for two weeks plus you won’t be able to WhatsApp me and you won’t be able to contact me.”

“I’ll be fine” I said, “I’ll just do my own.” Then she said “No I really think we need to put something in place”, I said “oh OK,” so I contacted the adult Social Services and I’m trying to put something in place to have someone visit me once a day. Now I would never have done this because with the dementia I can’t see beyond the present, I can only see what’s happening now. No more can I plan ahead or visualise what’s coming, so it’s a good thing that I listened to her.

Take care, buh-bye.
