Gail talks very powerfully about trust and relationships

Dementia can affect all aspects of life, including relationships with loved ones, friends, family, even medical professionals.

If you are living with dementia or are caring for someone with dementia, you may notice that the person living with dementia’s relationships with others could possibly change over time.

Mine definitely has!

Through life, we cross paths with many people, some will drift and move on, others will stay and we build strong bonds…You just seem to connect with some…it’s like you where meant to be.

Friendships and relationships just don’t happen immediately, it takes time, time to trust.

That trust takes time, time to build, and yet trust can be easily broken, shattered in a moment.

Friends are like the family we have chosen, friends to share in our joys and help us through the challenges of life…You trust them implicitly. It’s that special someone you can rely on, someone to confide in, you know that they will be there through thick and thin.

Trust requires honesty, reliability, and consistency in what we do and say. When trust is established in any relationship, it creates a safe space where we can be vulnerable, express our thoughts and feelings openly, and know that we can be accepted and hopefully supported.

Open and honest conversations builds a strong foundation of understanding, enabling family, friends, even some medical professionals to connect on a deeper level.

It’s about respecting each other’s boundaries and values.

Relationships are built on trust, break the trust and the relationship will just break down and crumble.

For me and my sidekick I am finding it increasingly difficult to trust…My ability to trust people has turned into doubt and distrust, I am now so wary of people, especially if i don’t know them.

I have started to find that I am quite uncomfortable around people I do not know. If I don’t know who you are, I am just so suspicious…Who are they?…What do they want? …The questions just go on!

I find it all really hard to understand and accept now, it’s as if my brain can’t process truth or lies. I cant work out if you’re a good person or if you are bad person

If for any reason you break my trust or upset me, then I just can’t accept you. It’s as if I cannot bear to have you near me

Trust is so fragile, when someone breaks my trust, it feels like a devastating blow to my well-being too.

I just don’t feel safe.

I feel vulnerable, confused, questioning everything.

I cannot shift the feeling of uncertainty that rattles around in my brain.

Having hubby whom I trust implicitly to guide me and help work through things is a very special relationship indeed ❤️

I know dementia interferes sometimes

Our strong bond always guides us through, trust and love holds us together
