A really lovely and powerful tribute to Nigel Hullah from Chris Norris
Chris: Yeah, I would just like to, on the back of what George and Joy have said, is to say what a, what a big man he was, both physically and his abilities and, he was always fighting in peoples’ corner, he never stopped fighting for peoples’ rights and you could ring him up and he would always have time for you, to pick up the bludgel, bludgel? … pick up whatever it is you pick up, to go and fight in your corner, to go to the PIP … next stage … oh I can’t remember the word, what it’s called when you’ve had it turned down. And he’d go along and he never lost an appeal, appeal, that’s the word!
I think he won 86 appeals against…
George: Oh my God!
Chris: … so he didn’t lose a single one.
You are right, he did have a, he did have a wry sense of humour and I could relate to that sense of humour because there were elements of his sense of humour which were very military and so I could understand some of the things that he was saying which other people, it went over their heads. I completely understood what he was talking about.
He didn’t suffer fools gladly, in as much as, if somebody was getting a bit out of order, particularly on the socials at the weekend, then he did take them to task but in a, but in a pleasant way to explain to them that this is not the way that we do things, we carry on with respect for each other and we don’t, so as far as that went he ran those social sessions very well and he did it on a Saturday and Sunday because he felt that there were lots of people out there who perhaps were on their own or a loose end and they didn’t know what to do with themselves at the weekend. So you could go along to that and have a good old chat and a good old laugh.
What a wonderful guy and there are some people that you can gush, gush all about and people think “well yeah I’m not quite so sure” but Nigel, he was a good guy I think, one of the best and a shame to lose him.
