“My wife’s inspiring, she inspires me to get up every day.”

– by Melvyn Brooks

“Hi, it’s Melvyn here.

I find it a little bit more strenuous every day. Walking the dog twice a day and all the exercises I do, I just can’t keep up with it all. My Max is worrying now, to take him out, which I’ve got to do. My job as a carer is very worrying as well, for my wife. Those who do care for other people, you’ll know exactly how I feel. For someone to be so ill, to be so courageous, it’s inspiring.

My wife’s inspiring, she inspires me to get up every day, carry on every day. And to see her in pain, in constant pain, it’s horrendous. She certainly is my inspiration. My inspiration to argue about dementia and to talk about dementia, the bigotry surrounding dementia, no knowledge of dementia.

There are fantastic people out there in dementia and I’d just like to say please carry on regardless of all the obstacles, and just to carry on.

I didn’t get to go out on my bike yesterday, the weather was absolutely horrendous where I am, and we actually went shopping yesterday. It actually took two and a half hours to get my wife ready to go shopping. So, that’s how it is.

We’ll I’m gonna go now and take my Max out, bye!”
