“I knew what I wanted to say but just couldn’t say it”.
-by John Williams
Hi, John here. This has been a particularly frustrating week. I’m finding it more and more difficult to find the words I want to use. Yesterday I went out for the day with one of my brothers and found it so difficult to have a proper conversation with him because I kept losing my train of thought. I knew what I wanted to say but just couldn’t say it. Other than that though, I had a really nice day with him in North Wales, where we use to spend a lot of time as kids.
I’m also finding it a bit harder to paint a good picture, partly I think because I’ve lost confidence and partly because I have so much trouble keeping track of my paints and brushes. I seem to spend more time looking for things than actually painting or drawing. One of the things I’ve not spoken of before but I know I can do, can be a part of Alzheimer’s, is the sensitivity to loud and sudden noises. When Dawn bangs a cupboard or drops something it has a huge effect on me. It’s like an electric shock. I’m getting a little worried about the fireworks with November the 5th coming up. Hopefully with a good night’s sleep I’ll have a better day tomorrow.
I’d like to mention that one of the best things Dawn and I did after my diagnosis was to get involved with various dementia events. There are so many different activities, I’m sure there’s one to suit everyone. It always makes my day meeting new people and seeing the ones we’ve become friends with over the last couple of years.
