Agnes talks about the minefield of managing expenses

Hi everybody, good morning, it’s Monday but I can’t remember what date it is.  Hello from Scotland. I have been really busy, I have been away, and then back and then away again, and it’s all to do with raising awareness on dementia and dementia being more than memory.  Which is good news.   Just wanted to say that my has been accepted so it’s good to go, and get it out there, so I need to find time to organise that.

But what I wanted to report on, was: it was wonderful Wendy to read your blog on expense, because this has been happening to me over, oh, for some time now over the years and I’ve been finding it difficult to claim expenses back, and I’ve often wondered why when I’ve found receipts why I’d forgotten to claim it back why it was so difficult to get it.  It’s so much easier if we can hand the receipt at the time the expense occurs, when you get there, but somehow or other that doesn’t seem to work for a lot of the people, especially universities.  So, so far upon my, what is it? expense, where I keep the receipts etc. and I have over £100 of receipts and I’m not sure if I will get this money paid back, it’s nobody’s fault, but why, why did I forget it, who promised to pay it back? I keep trying to have a system, but no matter what system – I keep forgetting it.   I think I get caught up in the moment of the doing, and then I come home and find the expense, two of the expense of things are for recent taxis from the airport, it was late at night and I need to try now and remember who said get a taxi and we will pay your expenses for the taxi.  Well what my suggestion is Philly, if you’re listening, or Rachel, why don’t we have a dementia, a DEEP guide on expenses.  Not only for people and good practice when you’re involving people with dementia, but maybe with some tips and guidance for people with dementia on how to get their expenses claimed back.  Maybe some dialogue or something before we go somewhere so that we could maybe make it easier for everyone all around.  That’s just all I wanted to say.

There was a couple of diary reports I wanted to do when I was away, but it wasn’t easy on the mobile phone and I’m watching my pennies these days.  So take care everybody, love everybody’s reports and it was lovely to know that Nancy is now a dementia diaries, welcome Nancy!  Bye.
