The first of 7 silly stories from Dory for Christmas – to give everyone a smile!

Hi this is Dory. Since there’s 7 days until Christmas now, I will do a silly story or a stupid story, something I’ve done, or that’s happened to me and I’ll do one a day until Christmas to maybe give somebody a smile to break the pressure and stress of Christmas that we’re all facing. My first one is, a few years ago, my now ex-partner had gone to the pub and I thought I’m going to phone for an Indian takeaway and have a bath. When I’ve had a bath, I’ll eat the takeaway. I rang the takeaway and ordered chicken Balti and naan bread and whatever and I was asked to leave my phone number in case the driver couldn’t find the address that he would ring so I did that. I was just about to get into the bath when the phone rang so I ran back down thinking it was the Indian takeaway driver. I picked up the phone and it went dead. I rang 1471. A gentleman answered. I said ‘have you just rung this number?’ The person said ‘I don’t think so, what is it about?’ I said ‘I’ve just placed an order.’ He asked if it was domestic or industrial which I thought was a bit strange. I said ‘domestic?’ He said ‘well, I’m checking here and there’s no orders been left.’ I said ‘I made the order about ten minutes ago.’ He said ‘Where about do you live?’ I said ‘Flintshire.’ He said ‘Where about is that?’ I said ‘Wales in Flintshire.’ He said ‘What did you order?’ I said ‘Chicken Balti and naan bread.’ He then went onto inform me they were a haulage company in Scotland. What had happened was a couple that we knew in Scotland, the husband was a long distance lorry driver and apparently he had run into the office before he set out on a journey to ring me and see how we were. He couldn’t get an answer so rang off. I think I gave him a shock when I said I’d ordered a chicken Balti and naan bread. My partner said when he came home ‘Didn’t you notice he had a Scottish accent?’ I said ‘Well, Scottish person could be working in an Indian takeaway.’ There’s the first story, hope it made you smile. I’ll think of another one tomorrow, okay. Bye.
