Keith reflects on a positive media experience filming for the Victoria Derbyshire Show

Hello Dementia Diaries this is Keith Oliver here, I have not posted for a few weeks but I wanted to post something today along the lines of how the media portrays dementia- it so often is criticized for its negative perspective. On Friday Wendy Mitchell, Myself , Christopher and Veronica Divas were filmed in the BBC studios in London for the Victoria Derbyshire show along with a number of other people either living with dementia or professionals working with us, this was a culmination off approximately two months worth of material put together extremely diligently and conscientiously by Jim Reed a reporter on the Victoria Derbyshire show and its thought to show what dementia is really like for three people and those who share our life with us, there was a mixture of humour and sadness and that’s how dementia is for us all, along side this I made a comment in the studio that Alzheimer’s is robbing me at times of my ability to recognise that those who come into my world often care very much for me and those close to us and this causes me some great degree of anxiety and distress and when brought to my attention, I only hope that I am able to apologise to those who I have failed to recognise they care, it’s not me, it’s the dementia, so often we say that and in this case it is absolutely true and accurate.
