‘They had a meeting about me and thought I’d taken a bit of a dip…..I’m not sure of anything really….’

Hi this is Dory and I was at the Old Brewery yesterday, the resource centre I go to for young dementia. The senior carer there asked if he could have a word with me. Anyway he’d been talking with my, well they’d been having a little meeting about me and they were saying that they were a bit concerned that I had taken a bit of a dip and had I noticed any changes. I must say I struggle to find the words or to carry on with my sentences a bit more, I had noticed that and just the normal forgetting things as we do. My daughter would say she’s told me something and I would say she hadn’t. But then this is the thing with Alzheimer’s isn’t it, you’re not sure of anything really. Had she told me and obviously I’d forgotten or had she forgotten what she’d told me. I decided to just let it go as it was. Oh maybe you didn’t tell me then. So just feeling a little bit concerned because they thought I’d taken a bit of a dip. Then yesterday I come home and there’s a letter from the Health Board to say they’d written to me twice to make an appointment for the Older Person’s Mental Health Memory Clinic and as I’d not responded they take it I no longer require an appointment. So I’ve been ringing them 3 times and getting a voicemail, so left messages with my phone number for them to ring me back. I’ve had no reply and I’ve just tried again and the lady said I’d come through to the wrong department, I’m not to be seen there, I get seen in Flincher, so I said this is the number on the letter I had, “oh right she said, I don’t know what’s happening with that, leave me your number and I’ll try and find out”. So I explained I had left my number three times and nobody’s got back to me. She promises somebody will get back to me. So I think you’re always having to chase people up about things and when you live on your own, I do forget to phone and make appointments. I do try, I’ve got things to help me but when this happens it’s not helpful. And I know I haven’t received the two letters they’ve sent because I kept my recent letters in the drawer and I’ve gone through them and this is the first letter I’ve received. Anyway there’s my little rant for today, I seem to be ranting all the time but, no it’s just that life’s that little bit more difficult when you can’t get to speak to people and then they confuse you by saying this is not where you’re supposed to come through to. Anyway ok, I’ll end this report now. Ok bye.
