“Whoever you are, thank you. I may well have needed your help”

In stockport precinct earlier after walking around for a while, my wife went to the loo, leaving me standing alone on a corner near to Boots the chemist. I must have looked forlorn, destitute.
I had only been there for a couple of minutes when I heard a voice right next to me. My mind had wandered off somewhere and it took me a second or two to realise the voice, a lady was talking to me.
She asked kindly if I was alright.
Blimey I must have looked desperate. I thought.
Yes, I said, I’m ok just waiting for the missus she’s just nipped to the loo.
But she didn’t leave me, and remained by my side until my wife turned up a minute or so later.
How kind.
How unbelievable kind and to think there are folk out there who really do care about someone they don’t even know who appears to them be vulnerable or who seems to them to be in distress.
Little did she know I was vulnerable in a sense.
I never asked her her name, and have never seen her since, but whoever you are, thank you, I may well have needed help.
