Steve talks about working with GP’s in Stockport to become dementia friendly
Hi, it’s Steve Clifford.
Some time ago I reported on the prospect of having dementia-friendly GP surgeries and that we could hopefully see some monumental change.
Well, this week we took a step closer to achieving just that. It was my idea some time ago that amongst all the other posters displayed in GP surgeries there was nothing whatsoever about dementia, and now Stockport NHS have created a poster with photos of myself and a leading GP, with a specific message about dementia. It will be in every GP surgery in our borough and, who knows, if DEEP take it on board we may even get it nationally so that every GP surgery in the country will have at least one poster about this dreadful disease.
We’ve been extremely busy here in Stockport with the educate group and our dementia intergenerational choir is to continue and do Christmas concerts around the borough, especially with care homes.
It is, however, very, very tiring and I was absolutely shattered the other day when we did three back-to-back GP’s master classes, when we saw about a 100 GP’s and nurses. But it’s all well worth it.
Thank you.
