It gives me a little smile when I meet people living with dementia who are enjoying doing something

Hello it’s Melvyn here. I’m just looking through the DEEP, UK network of dementia voices pamphlet. I’ve had it sometime but I’d just like to think a little bit about the allotment project because I think it’s really good. I really would like to meet some of the dementia people that are there because, well not only them but I like meeting people with dementia because everyone I’ve met seems fantastic. It doesn’t matter, I’m going back five or six years, when I was diagnosed, seven years probably, and I never met a nasty person, who’s got dementia or their carers. It just gives me a little smile when I see people who’ve got dementia they like doing something and they all meet up. And I know they meet up and they’re probably like me, they’re nice people to meet. There’s a stigma about dementia, “you can’t get a good conversation out of him, he’s got dementia”. I can get a better conversation out of someone with dementia than most people that haven’t got it. You know, I said to Rachel Niblock about dementia, because it’s about male and female in dementia. There’s more females working in dementia than males. I’ve hardly met any men that work in dementia and only in the groups. No one out of the group and I mean dementia groups in DEEP. There must be all women and I find that odd because is it a male thing, I don’t know. I hope not. Anyway perhaps I will get meet these Stockport guys with dementia and ladies because keeping up. I don’t look at it as a project, because it says this is a project, now I don’t like the word project because that means that DEEP’s not going to be kept going, that’s what it means to me. I know that hopefully it will. Normally these projects only last a year or two but I’ll tell you why I’m going to go now so bye.
