Jacqui says ‘I may have dementia but I’m not stupid, I’m not slow’
Hello this is Jacqui Bingham, I have been really frustrated and getting quite angry and confused because every time I read or hear something about Alzheimer’s its all about living well, and I have just been feeling such pressure, that we have to live well with Alzheimer’s. I went to the allotment run by the memory clinics , the Yodel group and the lady there showed me how to plant seeds, put a little hole watched over me as I put little seeds in covered it up watered it, then I told them that I grow my own seeds at home and I know how to do this, why do they treat me like I’m stupid and every meeting I go to its teaching me how to live well, I know how to do that why are they treating me like I’m stupid? I might have dementia Alzheimer, but hey I’m not stupid. And then I get this letter about the in two minds course and its really not written out for a person with dementia, the way its worded and the way its written out, really difficult for a person with dementia to read, so I’m getting confused are they going to help make things more difficult, treat me like I’m stupid, but I’m not stupid and I’m not slow I just have dementia, and I wish they would just treat me like normal, oh well.. that’s my frustration over for today, I’m going to go out to the garden centre and buy myself a nice sticky pudding, bye for now .
Oh hello its Jacqui Bingham, I have just received in the mail this morning a new book that I sent of for, Welcome to our world, collection of writings by people living with dementia, I’m really looking forward to this because it will be a book written by people with dementia and not people telling me what I should be doing and what/ how to live my life, I’ll be able to listen to how other people have lived their lives and the challenges they have faced , and maybe I’ll feel more at home with them because I’m getting a bit cross with all this about living well with dementia and telling me what I should be doing , so maybe this will help me , ok I look forward to reading it , take care .
Bye bye.
