Is it okay to pay for your own travel (quite far) for a half hour slot to speak about living with dementia?

Hello, It’s Jacqui Bingham.

When I was first diagnosed in January, I contacted the Alzheimer’s Association and I said I will do anything that you need me to do…and that was my attitude, I will do anything that anybody needed me to tell them or do, I’d go anywhere, do anything.

Well, I did a few conferences and a friend asked me if I’d go down to Cheltenham, no Chippenham, to do a little talk to eleven students who are doing health and social care. Well yes, I was excited I was being asked to do something and I was going down and paying for it myself and everything.

Now, a couple of months later, I seem to be looking after myself more. I have looked at the cost of going down and the time … three something hours on the train, then to go to the college, then to stay overnight with the friend, all for that half an hour.

You know what, I contacted her and I explained my energy levels and the cost and she understood. I suggested we do it through Skype. I don’t think that was feasible, so I’m now going to have them send me questions and I will answer them.

So, now I’m looking after myself and doing what’s best for me.

Take care everybody, bye bye.
