Peter talks about feeling ‘guilt-tripped’ about having dementia – like it is our fault!

Really pissed off about all these stories that the Internet is feeding me about how to avoid dementia, and all the mistakes we make that cause us to have dementia, and how 35% of dementia is avoidable, it looks as though they’re trying to guilt trip me into believing that it’s all my own fault. Where are the stories about coping with dementia, and living well with dementia? And getting on with our lives after the diagnosis? And what we do to extend our active lives? I don’t have young onset myself but some of the recent ‘blame the victim’ stories are appalling – don’t any of the people writing / publishing this trash care about the effect their unsubstantiated waffling has? And calling the people who support us carers puts the wrong spin on everything – they are supporting us to live as well as we can, not martyring themselves to caring for us. Supporter creates a much more positive active attitude, than being a passive reactive carer. Rant over (for now).
